Clearwater Announces First Artists and Date for 2011 Festival

Dear Clearwater Community,
 Hello and Happy New Year!

Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival (Clearwater Festival) will be held on June 18 and 19 at the beautiful Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.  Please visit our website at ClearwaterFestival.org for tickets and information.   Due to cutbacks at the Westchester Parks Department, Clearwater must pay $50,000 to keep the Festival going.  Yet, we’re still keeping ticket prices down and, of course, kids under 12 get in for free.  We hope you will please continue to support Clearwater by attending the Festival this June; it’s never been more important.

We’re calling this year’s festival “Clearwater Generations” and the closing set on both days will carry this title as well.  “Generations” will feat ure Clearwater favorites and their offspring performing together on the same stage.  These sets will feature Pete Seeger & Tao Seeger, Peter Yarrow & Bethany Yarrow, Bernice Johnson Reagon & Toshi Reagon, Tom Chapin & Jen Chapin (Tom’s niece and Harry Chapin’s daughter), Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, Mike & Ruthy, David Amram & Family, plus very special guests.  We’ll be announcing other “Generations” artists soon.  Each of these artists will be doing their own sets throughout the weekend as well.    Other artists we’re excited to announce are Martin Sexton (6/18), Jorma Kaukonen(6/19), John Sebastian (6/19), The Klezmatics (6/18), Janis Ian (6/18), The Low Anthem (6/18), Justin Townes Earle, Red Horse (Lucy Kaplansky, John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson– 6/19)Joe Purdy (6/18), The Clayfoot Strutters (Contra Dance Band), Rad Baarat (6/18) and Toubab Krewe (6/18), and many others. We’ll announce more artists soon, so keep checking our website ClearwaterFestival.org

The Festival offers much more than just great musical artists; there is the Working Waterfront with sails on tall ships, including the sloop Clearwater, a Juried Crafts Fair, the Green Living Expo, Activist Area, Market Place and lots of activities for families and kids.   Don’t forget that kids 12 years old and under get in for free! Speaking of kids, we’ll have amazing performers at the Family Stage, including sets by Peter Yarrow, Tom Chapin, Mustard’s Retreat, The Nields and many others.
The Festival’s success is dependent upon the 900 volunteers who help to put on all that you see and hear during the weekend.  With over 45 committees to choose from, including Site Crew, Peacekeeping, Working Waterfront, Environmental Action and many others, there are many ways for you to get involved.  “Early Bird” registration for volunteering begins soon.  If you are interested in volunteering this year, please click here.
Members of Clearwater receive preferred pricing to the Festival.  If you’re not a member and would like to join, or you would like to renew your membership, please do so by clicking here.

All proceeds from the Festival directly support Clearwater’s environmental education, advocacy and research to help preserve and protect the Hudson River and its tributaries, as well as the communities of the Hudson River Valley.

I look forward to seeing you in June!

 All the best,

 Steve Lurie,

Festival Director
